Festive Fall Decorating Ideas for Your Home

Even though it's technically still summer, once the calendar flips to September, our thoughts turn to fall and all the coziness that comes with it, from pumpkin-spiced treats to warm, woolly sweaters. We also start thinking about outfitting our homes with autumnal touches, wanting to incorporate that cozy, fall feeling into our interior design as well. Here are some simple yet very fallish home decor ideas from Better Homes & Gardens to start bringing a touch of the season into your day-to-day life.

Faux fall florals.

With the summer blooms in your garden waning, now is a great time to make use of faux fall florals around your home. Gather bunches of colorful leaves into a ceramic container or basket, or wrap bittersweet vines around a mirror frame, your mantelpiece or a grandfather clock. This will help introduce the colors and natural beauty of fall foliage into your home.

Cozy up the bedroom.

On cool autumn mornings, there's nothing like staying in bed a little longer than usual. Make your bedroom more inviting by adding plush throw blankets and pillows in fall colors, like burnt orange and brick red, and seasonal plaids.

Create an inviting fall buffet.

Dress up your dining room table or buffet for festive fall meals. Create centerpieces using different-sized pumpkins and gourds, and use cobalt blue glass or ceramic containers to house a few fall flowers, such as colorful zinnias or mums, or a sprig of fall berries or grasses.

Focus on the front porch.

Nothing helps a home say fall like a properly festooned front porch or stoop. Arrange a collection of pumpkins, gather some colorful leaves and branches in a distressed metal container, hang a wreath of fall leaves and berries and add cozy pillows in plaid wool or faux fur to your rocking chairs or front-porch swing. The result will be a festive and inviting entryway to your home.

Adorn the mantelpiece.

You don't necessarily need to use pumpkins and gourds to create an inviting fall fireplace. Decorate the mantle with various-sized pillar candles in fall shades, interspersed with small pine cones, stones or other natural touches. Add a string of small fairy lights in a warm shade of white and you're all set!
